Playa Los Cerritos
Santa Lucia de los Cerritos – Pescadero, Baja California Sur, Mexico
A beautiful, sweeping expanse of pristine beach just south of the farming community of Pescadero. The turnoff is at the top of a hill at about Km. 66. Watch the markers as there is no sign. Drive about 1.7 miles to the beach area.
Cliffs are at the western end of the beach with a crescent shaped beach facing the ocean. This is a popular surfing spot, as attested to by numerous tents on the beach near the water with surfboards outside. The campground is no longer along the eastern part of the beach. Swimming is relatively safe here, too. The Cerritos Beach Club Restaurant is now open serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Costa Azul Surf Shop also has a location at Los Cerritos. A dreamland of peace and tranquility where natural beauty resides. This is the beach, Santa Lucia de Los Cerritos, best known as “Cerritos”.
Update 01 June 2008 – The surrounding area is now beginning to be developed. There are plans for beachfront condominiums along this stretch of beach. Cerritos Beach Club has live music most Sunday afternoons.
Located on KM 66 on the highway from Cabo San Lucas to Todos Santos, Cerritos is a well-known surf spot with a beach break. The 45 minute drive from Cabo San Lucas is an amazing ride. The desert abounds on your right. and on your left you will see the Pacific Ocean in all of its glory. The dark ultramarine blue water kisses the shore with a turquoise blue.
As you approach the beach you’ll feel the cool breeze touch you with its freshness. Walk across the tan and black sand beach and view the power of the Pacific! There is often a sandbar where the water that shimmers with “fools gold”, gives you a feeling of surrealism. Paddle out into this right point break, with variable waves on the inside; and depending on the sand bar, you can often catch some nice lefts that peel into beautiful tubes. Cerritos breaks steadily, set after set, with no frequent “waiting time” between sets. This creates a constant “white water” parade of waves on the inside shallow water, making it a wonderful place to learn how to surf.
Cerritos is a great spot for both the experienced surfer and beginner alike. With a local surf instructor it’s easy to get hooked on the world of surfing.
Cerritos is a home away from home for many surfers who come camping, from all over the world. They are looking for the good swells that hit this time of year. In past years, many retired people from the US and Canada came camping for the winter in Cerritos to soak in the sun and salt air and to appreciate the relaxed, slow pace of life, breathed here in Mexico.
The RV Park has been closed since about 2006. There are still some tent campers in the area. Lots are for sale and construction is underway around the beach area and around the Km 64 area.
